Youth for Socotra

A training program targeting young men and women from Socotra to enhance their skills and abilities in creating visual and audio content documenting Socotra's human and natural heritage. This heritage, which is at risk of disappearing, benefits greatly from preservation and documentation efforts. The program also supports advocacy campaigns and calls to protect these invaluable resources.

Video Shooting Training

A set of basic training sessions on video shooting techniques, skills, and tools, including proper preparation for the shooting process and camera settings such as lighting, focal length, angle selection, and scene composition.

A set of basic training sessions on photography techniques, skills, and tools, including the types of cameras used, proper preparation for the shooting process, camera settings such as lighting, focal length, angle selection, and scene composition to creatively convey the image’s message.

Qadheb Beach

Five field visits to four significant sites on Socotra Island with importance in natural and cultural heritage:

Socotra Museum

Objective: Explore the museum's valuable artifacts documenting Socotra’s human and natural heritage.

Qadheb Beach Cleanup Initiative

Objective: Organize a plastic waste cleanup campaign that had been accumulating for years. The initiative was widely welcomed by the local community, who contributed to collecting and transporting waste to designated areas in collaboration with the Socotra Wildlife Association and the Cleaning and City Improvement Fund in the Socotra Archipelago Governorate.

Dixam Plateau

Objective: Document the extinction threats facing the Dragon's Blood trees due to past cyclones and the negative and rapid effects of climate change on Socotra’s ecosystem.

Qaiso Area

Objective: Document an old Socotri folk tale and highlight the importance of Socotra’s intangible heritage in recording and preserving the island’s history and cultural legacy.
