Reserving Socotra’s
Human & Nature Heritage

SOCOTRA PLANET ORGANIZATION

A NON-GOVERNMENTAL, NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION
ESTABLISHED IN 2022.

Dedicated to the human and natural heritage of Socotra. The natural heritage of Socotra is embodied in its rare plants cover and inhabitants, where nearly a third of the island's living organisms are found nowhere else in the world. Its human heritage includes the Socotri language, customs, traditions, literature, and art that have thrived for thousands of years due to the island's isolation from the mainland.

VISION

Preserving Socotra's human and natural heritage from extinction due to natural and human risks, including climate change, pollution, and the extinction of literature, art, and intangible heritage as time progresses and population increases.

MISSION

Sending a message to the world to give the required attention to Socotra, both the land and people, and to preserve its natural and human heritage. This attention can be caught by the production of artistic works that document this heritage as part of conservation efforts.

Gallery

Rich in natural diversity and rare inhabitants that are mostly found nowhere else on Earth except in Socotra. Indigenous people preserve a vast array of traditions that have been passed down for thousands of years. Socotra has its own Socotri language, and it maintains its unique identity, reflecting the features of ancient civilization due to its isolation over the centuries away from the rest of the mainland.

PROJECT

A training program targeting young men and women from Socotra to enhance their skills and abilities in creating visual and audio content documenting Socotra's human and natural heritage. This heritage, which is at risk of disappearing, benefits greatly from preservation and documentation efforts.
